Glazed Ham (Oven and Crock Pot Friendly!)
This Glazed Ham Recipe is brushed with honey butter and baked in the oven or the Crock Pot before being brushed with a sweet pineapple brown sugar glaze! The ham is juicy and flavorful with a perfectly caramelized top.
Serve this with my cheesy scalloped potatoes, twice baked potato casserole, or corn casserole!

Glazed Ham
If you’re wondering why you would go through the trouble of making glazed ham from scratch instead of using the packet of glaze that typically comes with the ham, you’ll figure that out quickly when you taste the difference! You’ll never go back to using a packet. It doesn’t even come close to this recipe.
The ham is brushed with a mouth-watering honey butter mixture at the beginning, and a deliciously sweet Brown Sugar/Pineapple glaze at the end. Can you think of anything better?
How to Make It
See recipe card below this post for ingredient quantities and full instructions.
- Brush honey butter mixture over the ham and inside the crevices of the slices. Add pineapple juice to the roasting pan and place a roasting rack and the ham on top. Cover loosely with foil and seal the edges around the pan.
- Bake at 275°F for 15 minutes per pound of ham.
- Set the ham/rack aside and top the ham with half of the brown sugar mixture.
- Add the remaining brown sugar mixture to the pan drippings/pineapple juice. Bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer, bubble gently until thickened and reduced. Brush desired amount of glaze over the top of the ham and broil for up to 5 minutes to allow the top to caramelize.

How Much Ham Per Person
- Plan on 3/4 lb. of ham per person for bone-in, and 1/2 lb. per person for boneless.
How to Make Ham Glaze From Scratch
- This glaze is made by combining pineapple juice, pan drippings, brown sugar, white sugar, and spice combination of cinnamon, ground clove, paprika, nutmeg, allspice, and ground ginger.
- The mixture is whisked together in the roasting pan. It bubbles gently and thickens/concentrates until the desired consistency is obtained.
- Finally, it’s brushed over the ham and broiled until caramelized.
Pro Tips
- SAVE the ham bone! It’s perfect for making pea soup, ham and bean soup, and lentil soup. You can freeze the bone to use another day!

Storage
- Store in an airtight container and refrigerate for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months. (Leftover sliced ham freezes well and is great for casseroles, soups, and omelets!)

Glazed Ham (Oven or Crock Pot!)
Ingredients
- 1 bone-in spiral sliced half ham, (8-10 lbs.)
- ¼ cup pineapple juice, see notes
Ham Coating (Brush on ham before baking)
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons honey
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon mustard powder
Sugar Glaze (Brush on ham after baking)
- ½ cup brown sugar
- ¾ cup white sugar
- ¼ teaspoon EACH: cinnamon, ground cloves
- 1/8 teaspoon EACH: paprika, nutmeg
- 1 pinch EACH: allspice, ground ginger
Instructions
- Make room for the roasting pan in the oven, you may need to move a rack down one notch. Preheat oven to 275° F.
- Pour the pineapple juice on the bottom of the roasting pan and place a roasting rack on top.
- Combine 4 tablespoons melted butter, 2 tablespoons honey, ½ teaspoon cinnamon, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, and ½ teaspoon mustard powder. Brush it over the top of the ham and into the crevices of the slices.
- Cover the ham loosely with foil, making sure to seal the edges around the pan. Bake for 15 minutes per pound.
- Combine the sugar glaze ingredients while the ham bakes.
- Remove the ham from the oven. Take the foil and place it clean-side-down. Place the rack with the ham on top of the foil. Sprinkle ¼ cup of the sugar mixture over the the ham.
- Leave 1/3 cup drippings in the roasting pan and set it on the stove over medium heat. Stir in the sugar mixture. Summer until desired thickness is obtained, adding more drippings as needed to control the consistency. Remove from heat and transfer the glaze to a heat-safe bowl.
- Place the rack with the ham back in the roasting pan.
- Brush desired amount of glaze over the ham, you don’t have to use it all.
- Transfer to the oven and broil at 450° F for up to 5 minutes to caramelize the top, watch it carefully so it doesn’t burn. Remove and brush with more glaze if desired.
- Serve with side dishes of choice, including potato salad or German potato salad and corn casserole. Have leftovers? Check out all of my ham recipes here.
Notes
Crock Pot Method: Cook on low for 4-5 hours. Transfer to a foil-lined baking sheet or roasting pan to broil at the end once glaze is added. You’ll need a 7-8 quart Crock Pot to fit an 8-10 lb. ham.

The best ham I ever made. My family rave about how delicious it was. I’m so glad I came across the recipe.
Wahooo! This makes me so happy to hear Glenda! I’m extra proud of this recipe since it took forever for me to perfect. Thanks so much for the great review!😃
Can you use a non-spiral cut ham for this recipe?
You can, but I really like getting the glaze inside the crevices of the spiral cuts! It really adds a lot of flavor throughout the ham.
Can I buy a pre cooked spiral bone in ham for this and do the crockpot?
Yes, you sure can!
The flavor was great! What gave me a hard time was the glaze. I’m assuming that my ham just had a remarkably high amount of drippings because it took me a solid hour to thicken the glaze. Thank you! It tasted great!
Last minute grabbed this recipe because the honey baked ham I bought looked dry and decided it needed something to moisten it or make it juicy. The picture looked good and although it sounded a bit more complicated than I wanted, it really was easy and the ham turned out fabulous!
Hi Teryl!! I am so happy that this recipe worked out for you, I will never make ham any other way now, I love the flavors and I’m so glad that you did too. Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review! -Stephanie
